Instructional Materials Adoption Recommendation
To all Buckeye Union,
Instructional Materials Adoption Recommendation
Background
Approximately every seven years, BUSD reviews adopted curriculum in order to determine if a program update or new curriculum adoption is necessary. Our current advanced and accelerated math pathways curriculum, adopted in 2014, needed an update to better align with standards and support student learning outcomes. Additionally, since these courses must align with high school requirements for algebra and/or geometry, we have an interest in aligning our instructional materials with the El Dorado Union High School District's (EDUHSD) currently adopted texts.
Process
A primary interest of this review was to align our algebra and geometry texts with those used in EDUHSD. For this reason, we chose to pilot Reveal Algebra and Reveal Geometry. Prior to launching the pilot program, advanced math teachers in BUSD at two middle school sites were selected to participate. Before program implementation, teachers participated in dedicated professional development sessions for the curriculum. Ongoing support from the publisher ensured teachers felt confident and equipped throughout the pilot. At the conclusion of the pilot, teachers were asked for their recommendation based on standards alignment, teacher and student usability, focus and coherence of the program, inclusion of mathematical practices, and instructional supports. A recommendation was made based on the established criteria.
Recommendation
After reviewing the input of pilot program teachers, the recommendation to the Board of Trustees is to adopt Reveal Algebra and Reveal Geometry.
Next Steps
Beginning on May 7, 2025 the recommended materials above will be on display in the District Office for public review and comment. The District will be bringing the recommendations forward for adoption at the regularly scheduled Board Meeting on May 21st. The materials will be available for public review until May 20th.
