Reminder: E-Bike, E-Scooter, and Electric Motorcycle Usage Information

To All Buckeye Union Families, 

As more students use bicycles, e-bikes, motorized scooters, and electric motorcycles for transportation, we want to remind families where they can find information about California laws and safety requirements for these vehicles.

Because the legal requirements vary depending on the type of vehicle, including the rider’s age, maximum speed, licensing, registration and helmet requirements, we have attached resources for families. 

• California Highway Patrol (CHP)

• El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office

The District is sharing this information as a resource to help families understand the rules that may apply to the vehicles their students use. Given the mounting number of injuries and fatalities that have occurred in our county involving motorized/electric scooters and bicycles, we are anticipating the CHP and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department will be further prioritizing the enforcement of these regulations. 

We encourage parents and guardians to review the attached information with their students and confirm that any bicycle, scooter, or electric motorcycle is being used appropriately.
