Student Insurance
The safety of our students is a top priority in the Buckeye Union School District. While we make every effort to ensure a safe environment, accidents can and do happen, during school hours, while participating in extra-curricular activities and athletics, or while attending field trips. These accidents may result in the need for medical or dental treatment, which can be costly. Please know that your school does not assume responsibility for such costs but does offer you access to several student accident insurance plans for voluntary purchase.
If your student participates in school athletics, be aware that California Education Code §32221 requires all student athletes to have accidental injury coverage. This requirement can be met by:
- A private health plan carried by the family,
- A student insurance plan offered by the District’s outside provider, School Insurance, or
- Enrollment in a no-cost or low-cost local, state, or federally sponsored health program, such as Medi-Cal or Covered California.
To support families, the District offers access to voluntary student accident insurance through an outside provider. Plan options are available to cover students 24/7 or only during school-related activities, with medical and dental coverage included. These plans can also supplement your existing health insurance and may help with out-of-pocket expenses such as high deductibles and co-insurance responsibilities. For more information or to enroll online with the District’s outside insurance provider, please visit the website for School Insurance or call (800) 367-5830. Details and digital brochures are also available on the Buckeye Union School District website at www.buckeyeusd.org under Parent Resources > Student Insurance.
Free and low-cost public health insurance programs may also be available:
- Medi-Cal for Families: (800) 988-5305
- Medi-Cal El Dorado County: (530) 642-7300
- Covered California: (800) 300-1506
If you do not have a private health plan carried by your family, you are strongly encouraged to review the options available and consider enrolling your student.
