CONGRATULATIONS!
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR ODYSSEY OF THE MIND TEAM who competed on Saturday, March 27 in Brentwood, California. They performed extremely well placing 5th out of 17 teams. The teams had to create and represent an original performance that included the discovery of an actual historical treasure. They also had to portray a depiction of a modern sculpture or structure that exists today, but which is discovered in the future. The performance must include an artistic representation of the two discovered treasures and characters that are part of the discovery team. Teams are allowed full creative interpretation of these challenges.
The Rolling Hills’ team first created a temple that was approximately 5 tiers high and rose up on a pulley system. It was made of mostly recycled bottles. The team received a coveted "Renatra Fusca" award for outstanding creativity for this entry. These awards are rarely given out, so this was a huge honor which automatically advances them to the World Competition on May 26-29 at Michigan State University! One of the judges actually took the time to sketch the temple from all angles – it was quite impressive.
Secondly, the team created styrofoam faces of the US presidents on Mount Rushmore and then they animated the presidents.
The team will now go on to compete against the rest of the nation and 26 countries from around the world (about 850 teams)! Please note that Raleys is currently giving away a few grants to help with the cost of sending students to the World Competition. To vote for our Rolling Hills Team, please log on to http://www.raleys.com/reach/1420750 . It’s simple and quick and will really help these students!
A big thank you to Linda & Gil Wong who continues to volunteer her time to coach the team as it advances!
