FIRST TRIMESTER AWARDS  ASSEMBLIES:  All parents are cordially invited to attend our 1st Trimester Awards Assemblies scheduled as follows:
• 8th grade ~ November 12th during Study Period
• 7th grade ~ November 13th during Study Period
• 6th grade ~ November 14th during Study Period
Even though not every student can be recognized, we invite all parents to attend to help support our students.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE:    We cannot stress strongly enough how important it is for your child(ren) to be at school every day and on time.   There is no way to duplicate all of the wonderful instruction that is missed when they are not here.  The law is very clear about compulsory attendance and we are required to let you know when we have concerns about your child’s tardies or absences.  This can be triggered after 3 days of absence and/or 3 tardies over 30 minutes in a trimester.  Of course, if he/ she is ill, by all means keep them home, otherwise, please convey to them the importance of attending every day.
Finally, if your student does miss school for any reason, please call the attendance line to verify at
677-1658, ext. 1500.  This saves a tremendous amount of time.  If we do not hear from you, you will receive an automated call.  Thank you.

KCRA 3 KIDS CAN FOOD DRIVE:  Camerado Springs will once again be participating in the largest student powered food drive in Northern California.  We want to take an active role in our community by helping to feed hungry families during this holiday season.  So start collecting those cans and give them to your students to bring to their first period class.  The last day to bring your canned goods is Friday, November 7th. All food donated will go to the El Dorado County Food Bank.

100 MERIT CELEBRATION:  On November 14th, all students who have maintained their 100 merits (no demerits) for the entire trimester will be rewarded with an invitation to attend a special luncheon.  We are very proud of our Wildcats who demonstrate good citizenship!

TOYS FOR TOTS:  Camerado Springs Middle School is partnering with the US Marine Corps League in an effort to see that children (toddler to age 14) of disadvantaged families receive toys this holiday season.

If parents would like to apply for toys for their family, they are welcome to stop by the school office to complete registration and toy preference forms.  Registration for the Toys for Tots program will begin Wednesday, November 5th and forms must be turned in by Wednesday, December 10th.

Donations of new toys are also needed and may be deposited in Toys for Tots containers which will be placed in many local businesses and fire stations during the month of November.

YEARBOOK:  Yearbooks on Sale!!  Buy your yearbooks now! The yearbook staff is working hard to put together the best yearbook ever!  Don’t delay.  After the first of the New Year, the price goes up and you will no longer be able to personalize this year’s book.  Many students are disappointed when they find out that they cannot personalize their book because they ordered too late.  Order now to have it all taken care of early!  Go to http://jostensyearbooks.com

THANK YOU:  A big thank you to all of you that sent in photos to Jostens that we can include in this year’s yearbook.  We have a lot of pictures of summer activities that will be in the book.  Now we need more help.  We would like to have a page or two in our book that shows what students do during the holidays in Nov. and Dec.  If you’re going to exotic places or having fun close to home, send in those pictures so we can use them.  Thanks for your help so far and for your future help.  The Yearbook Staff.

7th/8th GRADE DANCE:  Our next dance is scheduled for Friday, November 7th from 2:30 to 5:00.  Students may purchase tickets on November 4th, 5th, or 6th before school or during lunch.  No tickets will be sold after school on November 6th or on November 7th.  Students must have at least 80 merits in order to attend.  There is a 300 ticket limit for the dance so encourage your student to purchase early!

LIBRARY NEWS:  The Camerado Springs Library hours are 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  Please note that the Camerado Springs Library will close at noon on all minimum days.
VOTING DAY ~ November 4th ~ the library will be closed before, during and after school.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDERS:  All November Scholastic book orders are due in the library no later than November 30th.  Should you have any questions, please contact Jodie in the library at ext. 1540.

HONOR BAND:  Congratulations to those who made the Honor Band!

WINTER BAND CONCERT:  Camerado Springs Families are invited to attend our annual Winter Band Concert.  Come enjoy the music of the season!  Tuesday,
December 16th @ 6:30 in the Camerado Multi Purpose Room

NOVEMBER INTERSESSION:  Students failing one or more classes from the first trimester will be assigned an on-line tutorial class to remediate the failing grades.  All students must remediate failing grades before being promoted from 8th grade.  Parents will receive information regarding the on-line class and directions on how to use it in the mail.

GATE:  A GATE parent meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 10th, at Blue Oak Elementary in the Staff Room from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

ROBERT VERGARA:  Robert Vergara is a 12 year old boy.  He attends Camerado Springs and was critically injured when his dirt bike and a UPS truck collided at the top of a hill on Holly Drive in Shingle Springs on August 21, 2008.  Due to the extra medical expenses, the family would appreciate any donations.  In advance, the family would like to say THANK YOU to the community in this time of need.

To donate, make your check out to:  Robert Vergara Recover Trust Fund, and give it to any El Dorado Savings Bank.

BUS TRANSPORTATION:  The first trimester bus pass will expire on November 10, 2008.  Fees are due prior to this date.  All the bus fee information will be posted on the district website under the Transportation Department.

CJSF/HONOR SOCIETY APPLICATIONS:  Students are encouraged to apply for CJS or Honor Society based on their 1st trimester grades of the 2008-2009 school year.  If eligible, please complete an application that will be available in the library beginning December 1st.  The deadline for all qualified students to turn in their completed applications is December 12th.  Due to the CJSF/Honor Society bylaws, late applications cannot be accepted.

To qualify, students must have a 3.5 grade point average in the subjects of language arts, history, science and math (and Spanish, if applicable.)  Please remember, MEMBERSHIP IS NOT AUTOMATIC, students must sign up and turn in their applications forms on time to participate.  (Please note:  If your student qualifies and applies for CJSF for a minimum of two trimesters in both their 7th and 8th grade school years, they will qualify for a gold seal on their 8th grade graduation diploma and receive special recognition on the graduation program.)

Counselor’s Corner

Counseling services are available for every student at Camerado Springs.  These services include help with homework and organization, improving peer relationships and conflict resolution skills.  Counseling services also address issues that a student may be having outside of school, such as parental divorce or the death of a loved one.  As the school counselor, I have the opportunity to help students cope with or solve whatever concerns they may have outside the classroom so that when they are inside the classroom, they can focus on learning and school success.
School is an excellent place for students to learn from each other, which is why I facilitate a variety of groups.  Currently I am offering an academic success lunch group, a sixth grade friendship group, and a bereavement group.  Also, I am hoping to start a divorce group as well as seventh and eighth grade peer relationship/ social skills groups.  If you would like for your student to participate in one or more of these groups, please contact me by phone or email.
Rachel’s Challenge
Rachel’s Challenge was an amazing assembly and we hope to keep the spirit of Rachel’s Challenge alive all year through the Friends of Rachel (FOR) Club. The club will focus on reaching out to others and creating an atmosphere of kindness here at school. All students interested are invited to participate.  Our meetings are every Tuesday during the last 15 minutes of lunch in room 16.
Red Ribbon Week
We had a fabulous Red Ribbon Week full of events and prizes, all of which promoted living a drug free life.  This month is an opportune time to reflect on Red Ribbon Week and discuss the risks and dangers of drug use.
I welcome parent contact and will assist you as best I can. My phone number is (530) 677-1658 ext. 1520 and my email is cfalconer@buckeyeusd.org.
