Counselor’s Corner
Counseling
School is an excellent place for students to learn from each other, which is why I facilitate a variety of
groups. I just wrapped up a bereavement group as well as a sixth grade friendship group. Currently I am
offering an academic success lunch group, and I am in the process of getting names for a divorce group.
Also, I am hoping to start a girls anger management group and a boys anger management group. If you
would like for your student to participate in one or more of these groups, please contact me by phone or
email (see below).
Rachel’s Challenge
Rachel’s Challenge is continuing to thrive through our Friends of Rachel (FOR) club. All students
interested are invited to participate. We focus on helping others feel welcome, included, and appreciated.
Our meetings are every Tuesday during the last 15 minutes of lunch in room 16.
Struggling Students
If your student is struggling in school, there are many avenues to help him/her improve their grades. Try
the following steps:
-Utilize the binder reminder. Check your child’s assignments for completion and help them
prepare for tests. Establish a homework routine along with a homework space.
-Discuss your concerns with the teacher. He or she has the specific information that you need and
will have some great suggestions for his or her class. You may either email the teacher or leave a
voicemail. A parent/teacher conference can be held informally at any time by contacting the teacher.
-Take advantage of the opportunities for extra help that we offer: peer tutoring, after school
homework help directed by teachers, schoolnotes.com, and weekly grade checks. High school and private
tutor information is available.
-If you have attempted these forms of interventions and your child is still having difficulty, please
call me to discuss your concerns.
I welcome parent contact and will assist you as best I can. My phone number is (530) 677-1658 ext. 1520
and my email is cfalconer@buckeyeusd.org.
