Buckeye’s 150th Anniversary Party!
The Buckeye Union School District is celebrating its sesquicentennial birthday (150 years) this year. Additionally, Buckeye School is celebrating its 50th birthday. The District and Buckeye school are planning a major event on May 30, 2008. Children from Buckeye will walk and ride in horse drawn buggies and wagons to school on that day and then be grouped across grade levels in “one room school houses” for the day. They will use only materials from the 1850’s. They will experience games and lessons of that period along with a full day of living history – including making rope, building stools, listening to speakers and story tellers of the period.
The evening will culminate with a celebration at Buckeye School from 6 – 8 pm. for the whole district. The Camerado/Buckeye band will play period music; students and parents will dance and walk through a display of art and student work from all over the district relating to the study of the district’s history. A video will be presented with key interviews from local neighbors and community members with stories of the past. A time capsule will be presented to Buckeye School to be buried as part of the modernization work being done at the site for future generations to enjoy!
